Hair Colouring With Hoyu Beauteen's "Sweet Milk Tea"

I initially wasn't gonna publish this post as the dye job was done 1.5 months back and there wasn't any drastic changes in my hair colour. My previous hair colour was already quite bright (amazing results from the Rodica Hristu colouring workshop) so this dye job was done just to refresh the colour and lighten my roots.

Before pictures:

Omg at my fuggly roots! :O

But thanks to my mom's powerful DIY hair dyeing skills and this:

I covered up my roots nicely and got this:

Be prepared to be blinded by my shiny bright hair, ho ho ho!

Ha ha ha, very bright right?

But it's not that bad in normal room lighting...

..and under the sunlight.

(Gawd how I love root-less coloured hair QAQ)

The Hoyu Beauteen hair dyes are still the DIY dye of choice I'll turn too, because it works beautifully and it's really cheap (S$8.90 at Watsons). But for people with more sensitive scalp, you might wanna be more cautious and do a patch test before hand, cos most of the dyes contains bleach inside, so it can be a bit harsh. Personally, all I felt was a slight stinging as the bleach worked on my hair, and that's because I tend to go for the very light colours (thus higher % of bleach).

That's just my 2-cents worth of hair dye experience. And I love blinding you guys with my flashing hair halo~ Ha ha, love you all, tootles!!!

And I've Gone Coppery Brunette

Yep, that's what I've changed my hair colour to.

Initially I wanted to try out the KMS hair road show which Miwitch introduced me to, but unfortunately the days of the show clashed with my working days so I couldn't make it. Thus I decided to DIY (with my mommy's help of course~)! The dye itself is pretty amazing, here are some before and after pics~

Previously, I had really dark brown hair with red highlights (did it for CNY at the beginning of Jan), which has faded to a coppery colour.

(woots to Paddington Bear T-shirts!)

And now!

This is under strong lighting, where it's the most vibrant copper shade. My highlights were actually freshened up, you can see the light copper streak on the right.

Sorry for the blur image, I have unsteady hands. :)

The above 2 pics are under normal lighting, where it's more of a muted brown. But compared to my previous natural dark brown hair colour, it's already a few shades lighter.

Amazingly, my hair isn't damaged at all by the hair dye. I actually used Hoyu Beauteen's Hair Dye in Milk Tea Beige and it's a Japanese brand hair dye specially formulated for Asian hair - meaning that it contains some bleach to help lighten our dark hair and enable the colour to "eat into" our hair more easily. I think that Western hair dyes (e.g. L'oreal, Garnier) don't contain much/no bleach, that's why I don't really see a colour change when I use their dyes.

And I thought that using this dye with bleach in it, it's gonna dry out my hair. Apparently not, cos my hair looks even shinier and feels even softer than before I dyed it. Serious, I'm not bluffing you, I mean look at the 1st "After" picture! That's how shiny and healthy-looking my hair has becomed; it's like I went for treatment instead of dyeing, lol!

So a BIG thank you to my mommy, who did a wonderful job in dyeing my hair and making it all even! She's only dyed my dad's short, grey hair before so she was apprehensive about doing my long hair, but it turned out really good. After I washed my hair and dried it, she popped into my room to take a look and you could see amazement and pride on her face! Ha ha, so I really appreciate her effort.

Last but not least, I dunno if you guys noticed but in my previous post, I've actually revealed (accidently) which Sephora branch Naphula and I are working at. It's the new Sephora store in Great World City, so if anyone happens to drop by, it's a high chance you'll be able to spot us~

Thanks for reading, cheers!
