NOTD + e.l.f haul

January 31, 2010 12:31 pm · 14 Views · Posted by Regis

Painted my nails with the L.A. Girl Rockstar "Groupie" nail lacquer. Actually, it should be nail-of-the-last-week cos I painted them a few days ago but I got too busy with school/lazy to upload the pic. =p

And I also bought some e.l.f cosmetics from beautypandora for 3 for $10. Super deal, especially when JL and Metro sales are selling them for $6.90 outside.

Left to right: e.l.f eyelid primer, healthy bronzing powder in "Luminance" and "Warm Tan"

Yessssss, I finally got my hands on the ever exclusive eyelid primer! The last time I ordered it through Magical Tannsu's mass spree, it went OOS. Then when I tried ordering it again through Smoochiezz's spree, it also went OOS. So frustrating, so I went on a blogshop-viewing binge and I chanced upon beautypandora's and she already had it in stock. Lucky~ I do think though, that the mineral line's eyelid primer is even more exclusive -  it never seems to be instock on the e.l.f website.

Swatch time! Left to right: eyelid primer, bronzing powder in "Luminance", then in "Warm Tan"

Top: With primer

Bottom: Without primer

I tried a pink eyeshadow on the eyelid primer and on bare skin. It was super difficult to capture a shot with the correct colour showing (kept having a weird blue tinge, or the colour just washes out) and without my hands becoming veiny. Cos my hands are big-boned and veiny...

I was rubbing viciously to get the eyeshadows off after the shots, then I realized the staying power of the primer... I dunno if you can see it clearly but the top pink streak is still there, albeit very light. The bottom primer-less streak has long gone due to my vicious rubbing.

So I tried it again, this time with a olive green eyeshadow. Left with primer, right without.

*rub rub with toilet paper*

Can see...? Left with primer, right without. I think this is more obvious. So the eyelid primer really has got staying power as it proclaims to have on the e.l.f website, but I'm still a bit apprehensive about it, so I will be testing it on my eyelids soon. The only major downside I've noticed so far is that the primer stinks. Literally, it is smelly. Smells like some kind of crude oil... but ahh! It's only S$3+ for a primer. I shall try it out and see how ti goes. ^^

And my sweet little kitty, Mocha, was waiting outside the bathroom when I was snapping pictures inside. Actually, sweet is an understatement, cos she can be pretty temperamental (unleashes her claws) but I love her too much~

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, cheers~ :]

Vanity Craving's First Giveaway Entry

January 28, 2010 11:08 pm · 25 Views · Posted by Regis

Vanity Cravings is currently holding a small giveaway and even though I've never visited her blog, I came across the onsugarettes' entries for it. No harm done joining, so why not? Here's her website's link: Vanity Cravings

Can you be seen walking down the street of Orchard Rd WITHOUT any form of makeup on you? ( Yes / No. Why? )

My answer: Yes, why not?

I do understand why those who aren't blessed with good complexion will be unwilling to step out of the house without at least foundation on, but for those who are lucky enough, I feel that we should learn to appreciate our assets and live up to it. I mean, I'm not saying I've got a perfect complexion, but it's mostly pimple-free so I'm not afraid to show people my plain face. Especially when I'm rushing for time and I run from my house to the interchange, by the time I get to my destination, I usually spot a nice natural blush. A few people have actually noticed it and complimented me on that, so a plain face isn't necessarily boring or ugly.

Also, I feel that real beauty truly shines in the absence of makeup. If you don't have makeup on and people still compliment you on your skin and appearance, I would take it that 99% of the time it is a real compliment, and not just because of your makeup.

So that's my 2 cents worth. ~__~ I'm sure there will be people out there who disagrees with me, but it is enough reason for me to feel proud of my bare face and show it on Orchard Road.

Cheers everyone!

Cherry Culture Haul

January 27, 2010 8:28 pm · 85 Views · Posted by Regis

[Warning: Image heavy]

Feistyskies was just asking everyone the other day to share their recent hauls/buys, so I shall happily oblige her. I ordered a few stuff off cherryculture.com back during the christmas period, when they were having their 20% off and it finally arrived a few days short of a month.

Gahh... I swear I'm gonna go broke soon... T3T

Here's the envelop with all my stuff. Look at the amount of stamps on it, gah ha ha ha! My sis was urging me to give my mom the stamps, since she used to collect them.

Left to right: L.A. Girl Nail Polish in "Groupie", NYX Blush in "Mauve", NYX Concealer in a pot in "Beige" and NYX Mega Shine lipgloss in "Natural". I guess form the pics you can see how much a NYX junkie I am. I absolutely love their cosmetics - such good quality at such affordable prices. If only I lived in the States... (I'll go broke even faster) ...

Here's the concealer. This is my virgin pot of concealer! Yes, I can finally hid my awful eyebags. *goes on to demonstrate*

Can you see... err, the difference? The left eye is with the concealer, the right isn't. The product is pretty good - it's creamy but it dries to a powder form, and it has decent coverage too.

Ai yah, here's a clearer pic. It's pretty obvious, left is with, right is without. It looks a bit pasty here cos I don't use foundation and I haven't dusted on my face powder yet.

Here's the blush. It's a pinkish, dusty rose colour, really pretty.

Hand swatches of the blush and the concealer.

The colour payoff is really good, albeit it a bit powdery. However, after trying it a few times, I think the colour doesn't really suit my skin tone, it's too pinkish and dark. Anyone wants to buy/trade this? :]

And my favourite product of the haul, the lip gloss! Look at the bow on top of the cap, it's so cute. I get mesmerized by it every time I use the gloss.

On a serious note, the lipgloss not only proves to be pleasing on the outside, it's good on the inside too. This lip gloss is one of the best lip glosses that I have used so far. Now I understand when people say that sometimes, the product is so good that you don't feel like you're wearing it at all. This holds true for this lip gloss. I think I will do a review for this lip gloss soon, cause I definitely must list down all the good points of this fantastic product!

And here's the whole look, after I've put on the blush and powdered my face. Au naturale is the way to go. Ohh, btw, I'm wearing my GEO contacts cos my glasses warped out of shape that morning due to my laptop dropping on it. I only have my clumsy self to blame. =___=

Hope you guys enjoyed the entry, do leave a comment if you have any questions ok? Cheers~

Product Review - Bioré Makeup Remover Cleansing Gel

January 22, 2010 10:33 pm · 100 Views · Posted by Regis

As I was saying the other time, I really needed a makeup remover-cum-cleanser to clean up my face at the end of the day. Previously, all I had was the Maybelline Eye and Lip Makeup remover (you know, those that have the blue oil on top and the clear water below) because all I wore out was only eyeliner. Obviously with my face powder, tinted moisturizer, blush and the occasional eyeshadow now, the makeup remover isn't going to be enough to remove everything - it's just a waste. So I bought this to experiment with!

Product: Bioré Makeup Remover Cleansing Gel

Size: 170g (quite a big tube IMO)

Price: S$9.70 (I got it at S$7.76 after a discount at John Little)

The Good:

1) It does a good job at removing the basic makeup, such as foundation, face powder, blush and eyeshadow. It's also able to remove Stage's waterproof eyeliner.

2) Not drying.

3) Smells good, kinda like cucumber...? Do you guys like smelling cucumbers? .___.

4) Large amount for the price (Woots, bargain!)

The Bad:

1) The most disappointing thing - it's unable to remove that friggin' stubborn Majorca Majorlica mascara! I mean, they didn't mention anything about being able to dissolve waterproof mascara but I was hoping it could ( no harm done being optimistic).

2) I would say, it's more suited for those normal-dry skin types. Because it was a bit too moisturizing for my skin (my skin is 75% normal, 25% oily), so much so that it felt like I didn't rinse my face enough, you know, those kind of slippery, soapy feeling? Yeah...

3) To make sure you remove all makeup from your whole face requires quite a bit of the product. So even though it may be a big tube, it may finish faster than expected.

Ratings: 3/5

Where to buy it: I think most beauty stores and drugstores do carry them. John Little, Watsons, Guardian, Venus definitely sells them, I think even NTUC sells them too. Bioré is just too generic to be ignored. :D

Recommended: Erm... It's an okay product. It does its job of removing basic makeup but it's a no-no for stubborn waterproof makeup. Also I think it depends on your skin type. If you have normal-dry skin, I'm sure this product won't dry it out. It's a good bargain though.

Would I get it again?: Hah, for now, probably not. I think I'll take quite some time to finish this large tube and I'll love to try other makeup cleansers, probably those more suited for my skin. This thing is too moisturizing for me, I actually have to use a bit of my facial cleanser to get rid of the soapy feeling, cannot stand it! But since I set out to buy something that will remove my face powder and blush, and this does it nicely, I'm not complaining on that aspect. :]

Hope this review helped, cheers~

CHIC magazine + Freebie = Happy Me

January 20, 2010 8:22 pm · 64 Views · Posted by Regis

Ha ha, just as the title of the post said, a magazine + a freebie makes a very happy Regis~ *snicker*

I got this magazine at Kinokuniya for S$2.80 and guess what it came with...?

L'oreal Paris Studio Dirty Clean Texturizing Clay.

Read --->> It. Is. Full. Size. Yes, no feeble sample-sized pot but the full 75g pot!

"Wait... S$2.80 for a magazine and a full pot of hair clay?? WTF..." I was googly-eyed for a moment. Then after getting the magazine, I scuttled over to NTUC and checked its retail price.

"S$10.90?! WTF!!! LOLOLOL"

Ha ha, pardon my internet speak but I swear that was what's going through my head at that moment. Then, I tried styling my hair with it the next day.

The result of texturizing clay, dry shampoo, liberal amounts of hair spray (L'oreal Elnett Satin) and wild scrunching - a scraggly, messy headful of bed hair! Me loves~ It may not look it but there was quite a lot of volume in my normally limp hair. Plus it had the whole piecey, uneven look to it. Together with my reddish highlights, this hair style kicks ass!

Here's a closer look at the texture. Washing the styling product out isn't a problem, just use a clarifying shampoo or spend a few more minutes massaging and scrubbing your hair. (Good for the circulation too)

A useful tip I found in the magazine. I didn't know you could apply vaseline to neaten up eyebrows too - seriously that stuff can be used for almost everything. If I didn't know better, I bet it can be used to resurrect the dead! 8D Ah ha ha ha!

Hope you guys enjoyed this kiam siap gui's post, cheers~

L.A. Girl Matte Nail Colour Swatches

January 15, 2010 1:14 pm · 89 Views · Posted by Regis

Yes, here they are~

In the order of left to right...

Matte Blue Twilight

Matte Coral

Matte Alpine Green

Matte Plum

All 4 together~ Thanks to my friend who generously allowed me to bring back home her nail polishes so that I can swatch them. They're nice, no? Even though they have a matte/flat/chalky appearance, I think they aren't as matte as O.P.I. as they still have a slight dull sheen if there's bright lighting. Also, as noted by other bloggers, these don't dry as fast also, so you'll have a bit more time to touch up.

And.... ta da!

Presenting my Barney-coloured toes! *wriggle* Couldn't help it, had to do them green and purple, ha ha! As mediocre-looking my fingers are, I think they look a billion times better than my toes. LOL

Hope everyone liked the swatches, cheers~

JL Haul

January 14, 2010 9:07 pm · 26 Views · Posted by Regis

Ha ha, I went back to John Little at Jurong Point to get some more stuff. The added 20% member's storewide discount plus an additional 10-20% discount on certain product brands were too good to let off! Haiz, me and my lousy self-control...

Biore's Makeup Remover Cleansing Gel, L'oreal Paris' Elnett Satin Hairspray (Extra Strong) and Garnier's Milky Lightening Dew

Here it says that the oil-free soft gel will dissolve even heavy makeup, like foundation and lipstick. I've been wanting to get a makeup remover-cleanser cos there's no point using the eye-and-lip makeup remover for the whole face, it's  waste of product. I wonder if it will remove that stubborn Majorca Majorlica mascara...?

Anyways, I got a huge discount off these! 3 items for S$20, when the original price for these was S$29.50. Gahhh!!! I can die happily thinking of the money saved. 8D

Plus, I bought a 2nd hand Stage Eyeliner (in Backstage Black) from sg_beauty for S$8.00. It has been used for only 3 times and never sharpened so I thought it was a good deal. I tried it on my waterline and yessss! It. Stays. No eyeliner seems to be able to go onto my waterline and stay, either they are to hard to draw on or they smudge like crazy the next second.

So I'm a happy girl today. ~__~ (it's another matter for my pocket)

If anyone needs a review on the products featured, do leave a comment ok? Cheers~

L.A. Girl Matte Colour Heads-up!

January 14, 2010 12:14 am · 16 Views · Posted by Regis

I got tempted. And I gave in.

Ha ha, after viewing retailtherapy's post on L.A. Girl's Matte Nail Colour, I was set on getting at least one of those beautiful nail polishes. I've always wanted a matte polish, cos it looked cool and is currently in vogue in the nail colour world. However, O.P.I. is definitely out of my price range, so this does good.

I got the Matte Coral and the Matte Blue Twilight, while another friend of mine got the Matte Plum and Matte Alpine Green. We agreed to share the colours out so that we can experiment more colours at half the price~ I'll get the colour swatches up soon, probably mine first then I'll go grab hers and swatch them in time. ^^

Btw, heads-up!!! If you have John Little's Value Plus membership card, you can enjoy an addition 20%, on top of the 15% they are offering on L.A. Girl. The nail polishes cost S$9.00 each but we got them at S$6.12! Ha ha, that's a 32% discount (3% went to the rebate, I dunno why they calculated this way but I'll call them up another day to ask), what a steal!

As for the card, anyone above 21 years old can apply it for free. Not only can you get the added member's discount immediately, the card does not require any annual member fee, it's totally free! So I definitely encourage all to apply for the card. Thanks to this great promoter aunty who was uber-friendly and struck up a conversation between me and my friend, and immediately tipped us off about the membership card.

Hope this review was helpful, cheers everyone!

Spring cleaning time~

January 10, 2010 12:55 am · 56 Views · Posted by Regis

Woo hoo, I finally managed to move my big fat ass off the computer chair and do some much needed spring cleaning!

Well, of my dressing table only lah... but it's a start! Especially for someone who hates tidying, like me~

Before images:

Ngah ha, messy anot? I'm betting no one as seen a messier dresser than mine .____.

This Clean & Clear Toner looks pretty fine, no?

Well, it expired in August 2003! Ha ha ha, that was 6.5 years ago. It's like I'm keeping cosmetic antiques or something...

Wahh, throw away arh!

After images:

Yeah, dang proud of myself, though the neatness irks me a little. Once I get sick of seeing the empty dressing table, I'll mess it up again for sure. And that's the fun part!

Anyways, speaking of which, I went to the John Little Sale (at the Expo) on Thurs. The stuff they have on sale is of much better variety than Metro's sale a week back, plus their cosmetics section wasn't too shoddy. ZA products were going at a 30% discount, while Maybelline and L'oreal were at a 40% discount. Don't expect much from the selection - it's just a trolley full but if you're going for the basics e.g. foundation, lipsticks, eye makeup, then do check the sale out. e.l.f cosmetics were a rip-off as usual, going at S$6 per item, when you can get them at S$10 for 3 items online. They also had some Couleur inc. stuff on sale too.

Out-of-topic Section: Ooooh, recently I've been crazy over the Korean boy band Super Junior (their dance moves are wickedly awesome!!!) and I'm really digging the boy love going on~ I know it may be fan service but watching the guys doing underwater CPR on each other is hot! *end of rant*

Hope you enjoyed this nonsensical post, cheers~

Night of The Vampire

January 8, 2010 11:38 pm · 73 Views · Posted by Regis

I've been borrowing magazines from the National Library to read up on fashion trends, and magazine after magazine, all I've been seeing is Edward Cullen, Bella Swan, Jacob Black, Edward Cullen, Bella Swan, Jacob Black.... *goes on forever* ...

You can say I'm someone who doesn't enjoy Twilight - in fact, I'm known for watching it online and making snark remarks every 5 mins so or. So it's no surprise that I get irritated after seeing so many articles featuring the movie. Honestly, I've got nothing against the cast - Kirsten Steward is really hot IMO and Rob Pattinson should wash his hair more often - but come on, vampires who glitter in sunlight? =___=

Sorry if I've offended any Twilight fans, I really mean no harm, it's just my opinion.

So I've decided to take on the vampire look that spells everything a vampire should be - dangerous, mysterious, strangely captivating, DOESN'T GLITTER IN SUNLIGHT but avoids it like ang mohs do to durian (I know I'm generalizing).

Unorthodox vampire, crosses don't do nothing against me.    *grin*

Trying to bare my fangs... cannot make it =__=

Even vampires have dental woes. Eat too much candy...

The full look...

Blood-stained lips. My mom looked positively shocked when I waltzed into her room with my lips! Ha ha ha, poor Mommy ^__^"

Hope you all enjoyed this post, cheers~
