HOTD - Shaggy Waves

November 27, 2010 8:22 pm · 65 Views · Posted by Regis

I've been wearing waves to school lately, because I've gotten kinda sick of straight hair (love the sleekness but no volume at all!). And also, I've been inspired by this girl guy! :D

*squeals*

Tell me is he not eye-candy or what! Ha ha, I absolutely adore Jang Guen Suk and his adorable acting in "Mary Stayed Out All Night". But I think he can't really pull off the rocker act though - he's too cheery-pop and soulful-ballad. And though I think he looks smashing in the wavy rocker hair, I still prefer him with short hair, like this:

Ha ha ha, so boy-boy! Too much eye-candy, gonna start nose bleeding soon. Uhh, but yeah, back to what I was doing with my hair. This is my take on it!

The side:

And back:

I love love LOVE the volume this style gives my hair, and it looks so relax and out-of-bed. Plus, I usually curl my hair the night before and go to bed with it. The next morning, the curls would have loosen into waves like this, and I can just spritz some hairspray on and go out! No need to flat iron my hair, which takes me 10-15 mins every morning. :)

Anyway, jut showing what simple makeup I had on that day.

As always, I'll be rushing out of the house so I don't have much time for elaborate looks. Normally, it's just a sweep of eyeshadow, black eyeliner and blush. I had on some matte Stage lipstick here though, which left a lovely stain after a few hours of wear. And I love highlighting my face with my "By Candlelight" MSF.

And you can probably tell my fringe is getting dreadfully long. My bangs grows out too fast, and I actually self-trimmed this about 3 weeks back. If not, I'll have to go to the hair dresser's every month just to get it trimmed, so troublesome. Anyhow, thanks for looking! Sorry for the picture spam, and take care everyone~

Mega Flea Market At Expo

November 25, 2010 11:13 pm · 112 Views · Posted by Regis

Just wondering if anyone will be going for the mega flea market which is on this weekend at the Expo?

I'll be going straight after class, early in the morning, just because of Smoochiezzz's booth there (click on the link for more preview pics!). Look at the stuff she'll be bringing there!

e.l.f cosmetics, both studio and the $1 line~

OPI polishes are going at $8.

Marc Jacobs Braclets~

Nyx stuff!!! *squeals*

And heard she's bringing MAC cosmetics and brushes, and selling them at very discounted prices too! There's also clothes and shoes from Forever21 and Gmarket that people didn't claim. :)

I'm not advertising her flea sale cos I'm her fan/supporter or what; I just feel that the things she sells are authentic, cheap and really good. Since it's such a good bargain, why not spread the word right? And not forgetting there'll be other booths around, selling equally nice stuff I should think.

Anyway, anyone wants me to CP anything? Do leave a comment, with your handphone number, quick alright? I'll be checking once before I leave school tomorrow, and I'll sms you to confirm the stuff you want. Please note that I'll be happy to get the stuff for you guys, but payment should be done through internet bank transfers and promptly after I have confirmed your stuff. We can meet up to pass you the stuff, or through mail if meet ups aren't convenient (given that I'm still having school).

The flea market will be on from tomorrow (Fri) till Sunday though, so no hurry. You guys can always go down when you have the time. :) Hope to see some familiar faces then, cheers!

NOTD - Pastel French and "Zhng-ed" Toes

November 23, 2010 11:42 am · 76 Views · Posted by Regis

I seriously do not know what my title is trying to say but it's the best concisive thing I could think of.

First up, gonna show you guys my (in Xiaxue's terms) "zhhnng-ed" troll toes. :)

The bling on my big toe..

...and the flowers of the little ones. :)

Ha ha, I feel embarrassed for exhibiting such girly adornments on such ugly toes! I change the nail polish on my toes on a monthly basis, and I think I kinda overdid it this time. Festive season coming soon mah! Oh btw, the red polish is OPI's "The Show Must Go On".

On top of that, I did a French mani for my fingers!

My left hand...

..and my right hand.

Yeah, I swapped around the colours to make things more interesting. And notice the teo diagonal dotted lines on my index and middle fingers?

They werer done solely for this purpose:

Ha ha, so that there'll be another mini "peace" sign when I make the "peace" sign with my fingers! Ahh, randomness, I know. :)

So that's my mani and pedi overhaul for now, thanks for looking people!

LOTD - L'oreal's "Timeless Green"

November 20, 2010 9:34 pm · 61 Views · Posted by Regis

Amy (amyrleex) is kinda psychic. Because she sort of predicted that I would be featuring my newly bought L'oreal quad for this post. Ha ha, I was grinning at the 'mere coincidence'! But anyway, as always, I can't resist opening and experimenting with new eye eyeshadows, so here's my look for the quad. :)

It's green, in spirit of Hari Raya Haji that just passed.

I tried following the application method behind the quad but failed miserably. How is it possible to do a green-over-the-lid and brown-in-the-crease look on a monolidder like me? For one, we don't have enough lid space as it is; two, we don't have double eyelids to hide the green and exploit the brown for a full smokey effect; three, maybe my skills isn't there yet. Whatever it was, it just looked really weird and "ahjumma-ish", so I switched over to this more Asian-eye-friendly way.

Oh btw, I'm digging the white highlighter shade from the quad! L'oreal quads always have the best highlighter shades IMO. They tend to be shimmery/glittery though, so you'll have to look somewhere else if you want a matte highlighter.

And since I got the L'oreal Shocking Volume Mascara along with the quad, might as well use it! It's those two-sided kind with a white/grey base and a comb-applicator black mascara. Look at the ridiculous amount of eyelashes it gave me! :D The mascara tends to be clumpy though, hence the false-eyelashes illusion.

Since I had used all L'oreal products for my eyes, might as well go with the flow and put on a L'oreal blusher. It's the Blush Delice in "True Rose", my very first blush. I'm desperately trying to hit-pan with it and I think I'm halfway there!. This was going for 4 for S$20 at the L'oreal sale, Diana video blogged about it. The blush is very pigmented and the smell is.. *swoons* I can sniff it all day!

Anyway, you probably can't see my blusher here cos I tend to be very light-handed with them.

That's all for now, thanks for reading people~

Yet Another L'oreal Sale??

November 18, 2010 2:47 am · 90 Views · Posted by Regis

Ha ha, yes, I went to the L'oreal sale again. Something about these two words, "L'oreal" and "Sale" put together makes it irresistible! Even if I've gone a hundred times, I would still go - it is that compelling! But actually, anything with "sale" would make me wanna go..but that's another story for another day.

First up, I'll like to share with you the freebies I've received from Regina (littlefrozengirl)! She had a little impromptu contest sometime ago, on guessing what e/s she had on in a particular EOTD, and I guessed correctly. :) Ta da, the lovely envelope, which I lovingly ripped apart!

(Regina, hope you don't mind me sharing the note. It's so sweet!)

And the goodies, dayum~

Omg, Coca cola flavoured lipsmackers! I wasn't expecting that at all cos we only entered for the e/s palette. What a nice surprise, ha ha! Of course needless to say, I tore open the packaging and took a whiff of the lip balm.

*drools*

Smells exactly like the stuff, maybe just a bit "lao hong" (flat on the gas)! Anyway, I'm not planning to use it yet, cos I'm still going through my Korres Lip Butter. But I'm excited!

And the BeautyShe Mini palette! Ha ha, it's so cute and exactly like the Ruby Rose one that I bought earlier this year. I gave that one to my sis to play with though, but I'm definitely keeping this one!

Onto the L'oreal sale, this is all that I got. Heh! *smirks at self-control*

The gold wrapping paper and Re-nutrition shampoo are freebies that I got. And I only spent S$20, like WTH right?

On these two items. They were going for 2 for S$20, so cheap! Plus the freebies, the S$20 was well-spent I must say. I'm LOL-ing at my self-control now, cos I went to the L'oreal sale with the mentality of a man going shopping. I went, made a round, grabbed the items I wanted, made another round to make sure I didn't miss out anything good, then promptly went to the cashier and paid up! Ho ho, it all happened in a mere 45 minutes! I swear if I ever got round to writing a book on how to save, this will be one of the tips inside.

Anyway, thanks for reading! Do share if any of you went to the L'oreal sale this time alright? I know Diana (adorebeauty) did!

P.S. Mya, they didn't have the L'oreal 24 Hour Gel Liner this time! Drats! ]:

What's In My Makeup Bag???

November 12, 2010 4:28 pm · 38 Views · Posted by Regis

Do you really wanna know...? Do you, huh?!?!

No choice, cos I'm gonna tell you guys anyway~ :p All for Sophia's 700 followers contest! Congrats babe!!!

Ha ha, ok, enough with the crapping, let's get down to business! Here's my makeup bag~~~

Yeah, I know it's a friggin' free Pepsi Light plastic case. =__= But I like it cos it's transparent, and it's quite spacious. Previously I was using this sanitary pad pouch and it was all pink with flowers and horribly cramped.

Since I've only started on makeup somewhat recently, I haven't really established a makeup arsenal yet, so I just bring whatever I think is good. I usually don't bring any makeup out with me when I go to school (except lip balm), so this bag comes along with me only over the weekends, when I move back to my house in the east from my hostel at the west.

Transparency is good~~ Easy to spot stuff, easy to grab them fast too!

Let's empty it all out, and see what we've got...

[Starting left, top to bottom --> right, top to bottom]

1. NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in "Natural"

2. Silkygirl's Natural Brow Pencil in "02 Dark Brown"

3. Stage's Pencil Concealer in "01 Creme Brulee"

4. Covergirl's Lash Blash Waterproof Mascara

5. Duo Adhesive Eyelash Glue

6. Laneige Night Eye Serum

7. ZA Tinted Moisturizer in shade 30

8. MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in "By Candlelight" (my very first and fav MSF!)

9. Silkygirl's Precision Liquid Liner

10. Urban Decay Lipgloss Sample in "Timothy" (love this stuff, tastes and smells like Honey Oats)

11. Urban Decay XL Primer Potion

12. L'oreal 24 Hour Gel Liner, with brush (told you it's my holy grail eyeliner)

Normally I would have included my Lioele Waterdrop BB Cream but I didn't bring it back this weekend, so there~ My brushes are kept separate in my Ecotools brush roll, but that's not part of my makeup bag is it? That's my stash for now. :)

Do take part in Sophia's contest if you haven't, she has got some lovely prizes up for grabs. Dateline is coming up on the 15 November, so hurry!

e.l.f Kabuki Brush & A Medallion

November 10, 2010 5:00 pm · 243 Views · Posted by Regis

I seriously don't know what to do when it comes to naming posts like these. Ok, straight to the point then!

First up, I bought myself an e.l.f Kabuki Brush~~~

Like finally. I kept putting off ordering it cos I was not looking forward to the waiting time at all; but at the same time, I really wanted a nice BIG fluffy brush to use with my loose powder. So I finally ordered it, and it wasn't so bad...waiting for it...what am I talking about?! It took at least 2-3 weeks but the wait was worth it!

I didn't take a picture of the box, cos it was a little squashed from the shipping. But the packaging was also a bit weird - there was the box, all big and rectangle and nice, but when I opened it, nothing was inside. I thought the brush had dropped out and was lost on the way, but apparently, the people at e.l.f had squeezed the brush into this tiny compartment at the base of the box. Which seems really ridiculous. I mean, why would include a nice spacious box, only to squish the brush into a small, cramped space at the bottom???

But the brush is really VERY soft and big! Here's the size comparison between the brush and my MAC MSF.

I would say it's comparable to MUFE's kabuki brush. I'm not sure if you guys have seen it before but that brush and this e.l.f brush look totally alike. They even feel alike! Which is good, since that brush cost S$60++ and this is like US$3.

Brush-nose~ :)

Ohh, and not forgetting, I got some freebies from Jones (miwitch)! She's really nice to give away these, thanks a lot sweets!

Etude House's Tear Drop Liner, a lip gloss and some samples (I forgot to snap a pic of the Body Shop sample she threw in too).

Here's a shot of how glittery the eye liner looks. Though it's quite sheer and doesn't really dry when you layer on too much, I'm liking the 3-D glitter in it! So shimmery~

Last but not least, BloodBank @ HSA gave me this to commend me on my...generosity with my bodily fluids! :D

That's a postcard on the right, which was made on-the-spot, after they snapped a picture of me and my friend posing by the banner thing.

Not bad a medallion for giving away 6 packets of blood so far; I wasn't expecting it in the first place, so it's a nice surprise. I'll be aiming for the 10-times medallion next! :D

Anyway, sorry for the lack of updates. I haven't been hauling much after the last burst of spending and I don't really need anything right now, so saving up the money for the christmas period. Thanks for reading this post, and take care everyone!

Review - L'oreal vs Maybelline Gel Liner

November 4, 2010 11:19 pm · 666 Views · Posted by Regis

Battle of the top (and cheap) gel liners!!!

A while back, I decided to switch from pencil liners to gel liners as it's easier to do a wing, and it's less flaky and harsh-looking than my liquid eyeliner. So what's a girl got to do when she wants to try something affordable yet good? I turned to the 2 most common drugstore brand, Maybelline and L'oreal. I did consider on getting MAC's fluidline, Bobbi Brown's or Clinique's gel liners but they were a bit out of my budget, and I wanted to try something low end first.

After using these 2 liners each for a few weeks, I have a clear winner!

Let's go through the routine first though. I started off with Maybelline Studio's Gel Liner.

Pigmentation: A solid black

Texture: I wasn't sure if it's just my tub, but mine was more on the drier, more solid side. It's still creamy, but not like MAC's, which I heard you can stab your brush into. You'll have to run your brush along the surface instead of jabbing into it to get product on. And since it's drier, the product can't be applied on the whole lash line in 1 stroke. You'll have to dip the brush back and get more product.

That being said, it has minimal smudging after application. Good for people with double eyelids and who tend to blink a lot after applying eyeliner.

Hours of Wear: Not too bad, it lasted on me for quite long. But the next problem definitely cut down on the longevity of this eyeliner on me!

Smudge-ability: Omg, it smudged on me like hell!!! It really came as a surprise, cos the first 2-3 times I wore it, it didn't smudge on me at all. I was really happy with the product..until it smudged really badly on me one fine day. And after that ever since, it ran and smudged like crazy!

I was really confused; I thought it was my makeup base since I changed to a more moisturizing (aka oilier) one, so I tried switching back to the mattifying one. It stopped smudging on me once, than the rest of the time is panda eyes galore! Till now, I still don't know what's wrong. Lasted 5-6 hours on me before smudging.

Works on Waterline: Don't know, never tried since it already smudged so badly on me when I use it on my lash line. I didn't want to go to school looking like a drug addict.

Pet Peeve: I really disliked the metal screw cap of the tub. Made the product seem so industrial and crude. Can't Maybelline come up with a nicer packaging?

Cost: S$19.90

---

After trying the Maybelline liner for so many times and getting disappointed with each try, I decided to use another brand's - the opportunity came when I got the L'oreal 24 Hour Gel Liner for only S$10 at the recent L'oreal sale. I have to admit, at that time I was skeptical. Isn't L'oreal the same as Maybelline, and won't their gel liner turn out the same?? I mean, their packaged brush is 99.9% identical! Am I making another mistake again?

Well, apparently not, cos the L'oreal gel liner works fantastically on me!!!

[Credits to peanutbutterjellytime~]

Pigmentation: A solid black. I think the pigmentation is on par, if not, slightly better than Maybelline's.

Texture: Oh gosh, I love the texture of this liner! I think this is what Stila's Smudge Pot feels like (according to my friend too) - it's just soft and creamy enough that your brush can jab in a few mm, but not all the way through (aka MAC's Fluidline). And it's definitely not as dry as Maybelline's. While I had to scrape the top of the Maybelline liner, I could actually poke my brush into the L'oreal's and scoop some out. The liner also goes on more smoothly, due to its spongey-er consistency, and you could line the whole lash line with one stroke.

Hours of Wear: I dare say 24 hours, true to its namesake. Well, I wore it for about 15 hours and it was still fine - no fading.

Smudge-ability: Hell no, none at all! Ha ha, I'm so happy with this product!!! Wore it for 15 hours and more, no fading, no smudging whatsoever.

Works on Waterline: A big YES!!! I've got pictures to prove this, and you guys have probably seen my recent eyeliner looks. My waterline in all those pictures is lined with this amazing liner. And the best thing? It doesn't come off the waterline, even after 12 hours! Even Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner can't beat that.

Pet Peeve: Since this liner is more jelly in nature, it takes slightly longer than the Maybelline's to dry, thus it does crease if you blink after application. You can see a faded strip, then a darkened strip because some of the liner that has not dried yet has transfered a little. It doesn't smudge, just creases a bit. Simple solution - wait and don't blink for a while more to let the liner dry thoroughly, or do what I do and go over the faded strip another time with a healthy dose of gel liner!

Cost: S$21.90

---

I put it to the test by wearing it on both my tightline and waterline to a Bukit Timah excursion last week, lol! My school made us go there to observe plants, and as expected, I sweated buckets while climbing the hill!

Me cam-whoring when I had the chance to! You can see my rosy cheeks and my fringe sticking to my forehead, cause the weather was friggin' hot!

And pictures of my makeup I took that night after the trip.

Please don't mistake the outer smokey outline to be smudges. That's actually the waterproof MUFE Aqua Cream that I used to create the smokey effect. The gel liner is the solid black line closer to my lash line. You can see the liner didn't smudge at all, and it's even still on my waterline after all the sweating, running, climbing and blinking on Bukit Timah.

I must say, my makeup lasted pretty well! And I am totally happy, and thoroughly satisfied with my L'oreal 24 Hour Gel Liner. :)

It's a pity really, since I've heard so many good things about the Maybelline one, and it didn't work on me. I was wondering if it's my eyes or if the product is just not for me, but I'm glad I tried the L'oreal one. If you're considering between these 2 brands, I'll definitely say go for the L'oreal one!

NOTD - Matte Is Murder

November 2, 2010 12:59 am · 79 Views · Posted by Regis

I'll like to think that this is the kind of face that'll represent the polish's namesake accurately. :)

So after wearing my flashy iron-man-peach nails for 2 weeks (record time), I've finally switched it to Manglaze's Matte Is murder polish.

Ahh, you guys know the hype - it's a matte/flat black shade that became popular due to its lasting quality on nails and its 3-dimensional black colour, though its suppose to be matte. I kinda get the hype I suppose. Even though it dries like the texture of a black chalkboard, it's not just plain flat black. There are actually miniscule shimmers in the polish that blends in very well when dry - it makes the polish look more interesting and less dead. Can you see the slight shimmer in the pic above?

Application is ok, albeit a bit goopy. But it's considerably easier to work with than OPI's Suede polishes (which is hell to apply smoothly). I can't say about its lasting-ness for now, since I've only had it on for 2 days. But for now, even after all my rough handling/washing, there's hardly any tip-wear. I tried it on my dad 2 weeks back, and the polish is still doing fine on his pinky! He refused to let me get it off for him, ha ha!

Anyway, just featuring the simple eye look I was working that day. Black eyeliner and false lashes, that's all! I missed playing with my falsies since I've stopped wearing them after I quit Sephora.

I thought it matched the nails quite well~

Well, I'm really satisfied with the nail polish for now. Thoroughly enjoying the ragged, goth look for both my eyes and nails. If Matte Is Murder, then let's keep this fantastic secret to ourselves alright? Shhhhh... ...

(Thanks for reading!)
