Sephora Ramblings Part 5

May 31, 2010 9:03 am · 86 Views · Posted by Regis

And here's the last glitter eye liner look I did for my job before the theme ended with the week. I went all "geisha-esque" with white eyeshadow all over the lids and a corally pink spot at the outer corners of the eyes. Then I dabbed on some green and pink glitter eyeliner and used the silver one to draw some veins at the side. I quite like this look, though you can't really see the silver veining in the pics (camera sucks).

So yeah... then I got quite sick of sparkly eyes and glitters. So all I did yesterday was a simple kohl-lined eye with some gray eye shadow and mascara. Which I didn't bother taking a pic of, since it was super simple.

And it was super duper amusing on the previous day, on which I also spotted the look featured above!

Lilgoddess came to pay me a visit in the store, lol!!!

It was about 5 plus in the evening, I guess..? Can't really remember, but I was zooming around the store (as per normal, seriously I'm the only one running in the store; the rest are always asking why I'm in such a hurry) and then I caught this lady staring queerly at me. So I went over to greet her, and her eyes started looking down to my name tag.

"Err, mam... Can I help you with anything?"

"Ohh no, it's just that I recognize you."

I was stunned for a moment as she introduced herself as an onsugar member. Then I got super excited and asked her who she was, and she said she was lilgoddess! Ha ha, what a pleasant surprise! However I only had time to say hello before I had to tend to other customers and the next time I looked back, she had vanished. I think she came to spy on me and Naphula. o__o Lol, but Naphula was standing at the back of the store and I think lilgoddess missed her, but I went over to her and gushed about the meeting.

So thanks, lilgoddess, for dropping by! Even though I didn't have time to do a proper intro and to ask for your name (silly me), I'm glad I got to meet you~ Next time stay longer ok? So that I can drag Naphula over. :)

This is what happens when there's a lack of customers and beauty advisors have nothing to do...

We go crazy swatching nail polishes!

My excuse is really that I'm being a walking OPI advertisement. :)

Sephora LOTD - Glitter Eyeliner

May 28, 2010 11:01 am · 146 Views · Posted by Regis

The day when GWC Sephora set a theme for their staff - Glitter Eyeliner.

So all of us had to do eye makeup with glitter eyeliner included and these were the ones I wore on my 2 days of work.

Day 1 - Smokey eye with silver glitter

And the full-face look. The eyeliner just refuses to appear in this lighting.

Ha ha, this lady actually liked it and said I looked like some Barbie doll with super glittery eyes~ I kinda thought it was a little over the top.

Day 2 - Colour Burst

Ha ha, this look was so super fun to do!

Full-face pics. Please ignore these corny poses, it's just that the eyes were captured nicely in these pictures that I've decided to use it)

Even though this look was super colourful and even more glittery, I actually digged this more than Day 1's look. And so did a few other people, they were super amused at all the colours! A few women got distracted by my eyes when I was introducing products to them and they asked for the eyeliners, to which they tried and "ogled and ahh-ed" at the price, lol! But one lady actually purchased 2 of them because she liked the effects and colours so much. Ohh, I forgot to mention, these coloured liners are actually Too Faced Glitter Liners going at S$32 for a small tube. It's freakishly expensive, IMO.

So what do you think? Do you prefer the 1st look or the 2nd look? Do drop a comment, cos I always appreciate every single comment that comes my way! :D Thanks for reading!

And I've Gone Coppery Brunette

May 25, 2010 1:43 pm · 116 Views · Posted by Regis

Yep, that's what I've changed my hair colour to.

Initially I wanted to try out the KMS hair road show which Miwitch introduced me to, but unfortunately the days of the show clashed with my working days so I couldn't make it. Thus I decided to DIY (with my mommy's help of course~)! The dye itself is pretty amazing, here are some before and after pics~

Previously, I had really dark brown hair with red highlights (did it for CNY at the beginning of Jan), which has faded to a coppery colour.

(woots to Paddington Bear T-shirts!)

And now!

This is under strong lighting, where it's the most vibrant copper shade. My highlights were actually freshened up, you can see the light copper streak on the right.

Sorry for the blur image, I have unsteady hands. :)

The above 2 pics are under normal lighting, where it's more of a muted brown. But compared to my previous natural dark brown hair colour, it's already a few shades lighter.

Amazingly, my hair isn't damaged at all by the hair dye. I actually used Hoyu Beauteen's Hair Dye in Milk Tea Beige and it's a Japanese brand hair dye specially formulated for Asian hair - meaning that it contains some bleach to help lighten our dark hair and enable the colour to "eat into" our hair more easily. I think that Western hair dyes (e.g. L'oreal, Garnier) don't contain much/no bleach, that's why I don't really see a colour change when I use their dyes.

And I thought that using this dye with bleach in it, it's gonna dry out my hair. Apparently not, cos my hair looks even shinier and feels even softer than before I dyed it. Serious, I'm not bluffing you, I mean look at the 1st "After" picture! That's how shiny and healthy-looking my hair has becomed; it's like I went for treatment instead of dyeing, lol!

So a BIG thank you to my mommy, who did a wonderful job in dyeing my hair and making it all even! She's only dyed my dad's short, grey hair before so she was apprehensive about doing my long hair, but it turned out really good. After I washed my hair and dried it, she popped into my room to take a look and you could see amazement and pride on her face! Ha ha, so I really appreciate her effort.

Last but not least, I dunno if you guys noticed but in my previous post, I've actually revealed (accidently) which Sephora branch Naphula and I are working at. It's the new Sephora store in Great World City, so if anyone happens to drop by, it's a high chance you'll be able to spot us~

Thanks for reading, cheers!

Sephora Ramblings Part 3

Over the last 2 days that I've been working, I've received the nicest compliments I've had so far during this short time span of messing with makeup.

On Thursday, I was running around the store and rearranging/restocking products as usual, when this lady whom I always see in the store's office approached me. She introduced herself as one of Sephora's Recruitment Managers or something (I didn't catch her introduction properly cause I was distracted) and offered me a firm handshake. Then she pulled me to the front of the store and asked if I applied the eyeshadows I had on that day myself, to which I nodded. Hah, she seemed surprised that I did it myself cos she thought the eyeshadows were applied really nicely and the colours looked really good. Then she told me to remain at the main entrance of the store to greet customers since I had such nice eyeshadows on and it was a prime model for the store. After which she strolled away and I was left a bit flabbergasted.

So I was happily thinking about the compliment and greeting the people who came in when my colleague came over. I asked her who that lady was and my colleague told me her name was Sonia, she's from France and she's one of the bosses of Sephora. I was a bit stunned so I stuttered out "You mean the boss of this branch or...?"

"No, the boss of everything lah." *big hand motions*

"..............................................."

Okay. That totally made my day. Ha ha, I'm not sure if bosses go around the stores complimenting every employee to boost moral but it totally worked on me! I was so embarrassed but flattered at the same time. I still haven't found out the exact position of that lady though - must go poke around the office and ask my colleagues more.

Anyway, here's the look that Sonia complimented me for.

And a full-face pic.

Note that I took these pictures when I returned home, after being out for more than 12 hours. All my makeup was still in place and the eyeshadows as vibrant as ever. Really have to thank UDPP which I've recently started using.

Also notice the pinky cheeks? Ha ha, I had Make Up For Ever's HD cream blush tried on me. The makeup artist in charge of the MUFE booth readily applied it on me when I told her that's one of the most highly raved items right now (which is totally true right?). Her blending technique is really good, cos she used a brush and did it in 1 minute flat. I thought that the blush would come out splotchy but it looks so natural here! Ha ha, not bad!

And lastly, this was the LOTD I wore yesterday to work, to which 2 of my colleagues raved about. They were really impressed with the eyeshadow colour combi and the nice pigmentation. I felt really flattered because they're the permanent makeup assistants hired and trained by Sephora, so those comments have to mean something right?

And the full-face pic!

And once again, pictures after being outside for more than 12 hours! Haiz, I'm definitely loving the UDPP.

Thanks for reading, if you've got advice or things that I can improve on, do leave a comment. I'm looking forward to improving my makeup application techniques! Cheers~

Sephora Ramblings Part 2

Alright, so onto the 2 freebies that I got.

First up, more pics of the beautiful Couture Couture perfume sample~

The front and sides of the cute, pink box~

Bottom of the box = Made in USA, woots!

I doubt wearing the scent will actually "couturized" me though.

Gosh, isn't the bottle just too cute?! It's so elegant and pretty with the intricate symbols and that gold crown cap!!!

The full-size bottle looks even more stunning than this. Here, I'll show you guys a pic!

Aww, so pretty! It's got a wand-like cap with all the carvings and a pink zipper ribbon with a Juicy Couture charm, it can't get more gorgeous than this. But that sample isn't all too bad!

For this fragrance, it contains pink grape, orange flower and mandarin in its top notes, blushed plum, honeysuckle and star jasmine in its middle notes and vanilla scents as its base notes. In other words, it smells all fruity and citrusy on first whiff, while the lingering after that is of delicious vanilla.

Personally for me, I was attracted to this scent on first whiff due to its really refreshing citrus scent. It smelled richly of grapes and mandarin, which really perked me up. Plus after the top notes diffused off, there was this really nice and soothing vanilla scent. See, my fragrance training paid off! I never thought I'll be using the words "top notes" or "base notes" ever in my life. The only unfortunate thing is that it's so blardy expensive, selling at S$144 a bottle (100 mL).

And the second product I got, Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask!

The instructions on how to use this little queer thing.

And the product guide that we got during the training that gave details on each Bliss product. See the long list of ingredients? That's why it's counted as an intensive eye treatment that is suppose to be really effective for our eyebags. And it ain't cheap too, coming at S$75 for a box of 4 tabs. So the above 2 tabs I got costs S$37.50. These are some really expensive samples I have here...

Anyway, I gave 1 tab to my mom to use, and I chucked mine into the fridge for a future cooling eye treatment. Ha ha, the way to release the serum onto the eye pads was so unique that my mom got a bit intimidated by it. But she managed to do it right, just press the serum compartment real hard and the thing will pop and saturate the pads. By the way, the pads aren't just normal cotton pads - they're made of dried seaweed which is suppose to be effective even without the serum. My colleague tried it during the training session, and so did my mom tonight and both claimed that there's visible smoothing out of the under eye wrinkles and brightening of the eyebags. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say yet. Will update when I've tried it~

So these are the adventures I have for now, i'm sure there's gonna be more in the future. Hope you guys enjoyed the posts, take care~

Sephora Ramblings Part 1

May 19, 2010 4:53 pm · 173 Views · Posted by Regis

It's gonna be a long post - that's why I've decided to split it into 1/2, and I'm sure there's gonna be more work-related rants in the future.

So I'm currently resting at home today, and resuming work tomorrow. Naphula is working in the store today however, her off days are different from mine. 1st thing I wanna say is: My. Feet. Are. Killing. Me.

Period.

Standing for 10 hrs on end is seriously no joke, and apparently I was stupid enough to wear the 2-inch boots to work on the 1st day. I mean, 2-3 hrs in those boots are fine, but when it's 10 hrs... lol, my feel felt like breaking in 1/2 when I returned home that night! Ha ha, lesson learnt, so I went to get a simple pair of Cotton On flats immediately after work. Even now as I'm wriggling my toes and typing this out, I can't really feel my 4th and 5th toes and the balls of my feet are still in a dull pain. Haiz, really stupid of me to do that.

Anyhoo, here's a picture...

.. of my name tag and the badges we're currently wearing!

Apologies for the weird black badge -I censored some of the words out- that's why there's a weird black smiley face there. The "I *heart heart heart* Matte" badge is because we're currently promoting Bare Escentuals' newly launched mineral matte foundation (with spf 15, yayness). I haven't really tried it but I've heard really good reviews about it. The only thing, as with all mineral products, is that the powder flies everywhere and it's quite a mess.

As for my name tag, lol, I think it's over-rated! I am definitely no beauty advisor, they should give me something like "sales/store assistant". Cos that's what I really am! I mean, I'm still learning all the ropes and with this name tag, many customers come up to me with all these really complicated beauty questions, to which I flash them a blank look and hurriedly refer them to the real beauty advisors. However, I'm trying to live up to the name tag so I'm constantly picking up stuff/tips from my seniors. I was so proud of myself yesterday when I helped a lady match a liquid foundation (bingo on the 1st foundation shade I picked)!

As for sales, I think there has been a quite a buzz about it lately? Yes, there's currently a lot of discounts going off in the store. Quite a few 40% off items like Sephora-brand brushes and accesories; many other items like the body sugar scrub, skin products, cosmetics have 30% off; Burt's Bees shimmer lip balm are going for 2 for S$20 (r.p S$12), etc. And oh yes, currently, one of the hottest sellers right now is the Sephora Limited Edition Color Play Palette!

So it's in a neat rectangular holder (like Coastal scents) with 5 individual removable palettes. So you can see, each palette has a different colour theme, so there's a lot of different colours to play around with. Each palette also comes with 2 rectangular strips of lip glosses (beneath the squarish eye shadows) and a blush. Good worth for money, I'll say. It's selling in Sephora SG for S$59.00 (r.p up to S$250), I got the pic from the U.S site.

Anyway, back to the job, we also attend training sessions sometimes during our work hours. For example, yesterday I went for 2 trainings - 1 for Bliss products and 1 for Juicy Couture's newly launched perfume, Couture Couture. Not sure if you guys have heard of the brands, but they're pretty big in the U.S. And guess what? I got samples! ^__^

Couture Couture, by Juicy Couture.

Eye masks by Bliss.

I'll be writing about these products in the next part, so thanks for reading for now! See you in a while~

Edit: Ohh yes! And I forgot to complain about 1 more thing!!! The store kept replaying Lady Gaga's "The Fame" album over and over again! Over the 2 days of work, I've heard it at least 20 times. =__= I think I'm going ga ga soon... I find myself even humming the songs sub consciously at night, the hell...

Nail Polish Storage Improvements

May 18, 2010 10:00 pm · 248 Views · Posted by Regis

Ok, I'm back from work and finally able to have a breather. Yesterday's 1st day and today's 2nd day at Sephora was a crazy whirlwind of experiences and there's just so many things to learn! But before I jump into describing the working experience so far, let me show you guys the nail polish storage box I made!

So before the exams, I was lamenting how I should reuse some old boxes/cardboard to make a more effective nail polish holder, and I finally got down to it. After realizing that I won't have much time once I start working.

So here it is!

I spent my whole Saturday afternoon making the dividers in the box with a big old piece of hard cardboard. I left the right side empty to store other stuff like my nail decals and mini polish sets. If I do start to run out of slots, I guess I'll have to do the right side as well. But there's adequate slots for now.

Here's a close-up, on how the nail polishes are secured.

And also my repeat of the OPI MAAH NOTD that I did about a month back. I wore this for work and caught the attention of quite a few people. Prove that it's a fantastic glitter polish that entices people's eyes, ah ha ha ha!

Will be blogging about exciting stuff tomorrow (off day), stay tuned!

LOTD - Silvery Smokey

May 16, 2010 2:52 pm · 78 Views · Posted by Regis

Guess I'm stuck in a smokey eye rut, but I can't help it! It such a nice eye look to wear out. ^__^ However, this is the 1st time I'm putting silver as the main feature, usually I mess around with browns or purples.

And the full face pic. As you can probably tell, I'm wearing my circle lenses today. Smokey eyes definitely look nicer without any lenses obstructing them, but my eyes get really tired and dry at the end of the day. That's why I prefer my specs.

And a blurry shot which I liked the best. It brings out the smokiness just right.

Thanks for reading! I'm not sure if I'll have time to snap anymore LOTDs when I start work, but ahh well. =x
