LOTD & HOTD - Summer Sienna

May 26, 2011 9:45 pm · 66 Views · Posted by Regis

Actually, the HOTD and LOTD had nothing to do with each other but it started with me playing with my hair, so I just did my makeup along with it, ha ha!

When I was mugging for my last paper last week, I got distracted (as usual) and tried curling my hair. I didn't know if it would work since my hair cut is now asymmetrical, but I guess it turned out ok. Like so, below.

(silly face, bleehhh)

Fast forward a few days later, I curled my hair again and this time, I coupled it with a smokey copper look.

Or least I tried to make it smokey, but it didn't really come out as want I wanted it to be.   -___-

And a smile for you, heh!

I do like coppery, orange makeup. I think it reflects summer very well. And I think our Singapore weather has been trying too hard also - it has been so freaking warm!

I was perspiring like crazy after doing my makeup and hair. Cannot tahan. -__-

But I hope you enjoyed viewing this post, thanks for popping by! Take care in this insane weather, y'all!

NOTD - Bling Bling Gold

May 24, 2011 2:07 pm · 43 Views · Posted by Regis

You know you're a hardcore nail polish addict when the first thing you do after exams is to sit down and paint your nails while watching Korean dramas. Ha ha, I did this to celebrate the end of my exams, may the bling bling gold bring me luck for the results! Huat arh!!!

Here's a close-up in natural lighting:

Holographic yumminess~

In my room, where the lighting is a little yellower:

And the holographic effect under strong artificial (table lamp) lighting:

You can probably tell I'm into painting my ring finger a different colour, I think it's kinda cool. Get to try out different nail polishes also, kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

The gold polish is Etude House's LuciDarling Glitter Polish; honestly, they do good glitter holographic polishes but their other shimmer and cremes tend to be streaky and not so nice to use. Underneath the gold glitter, I used China Glaze's holographic polish in "FYI", to give it a base colour.

The polish on my ring finger is Orly's "Space Cadet" over China Glaze's "Emerald Sparkle". I was trying to bring out the yellow-green duochrome more, but I think the pink duochrome became more obvious instead. -__- Nonetheless, it's still one of my favourite polishes because of its awesome duochrome effect!

Thanks for viewing this entry, guys, and don't forget to join the giveaway if you haven't!

Canmake Lash Care Essence Review

May 21, 2011 3:55 pm · 166 Views · Posted by Regis

After finishing my DHC Lash Serum back in March -and I was pretty impressed by it too- I went ahead and bought the Canmake Lash Care Serum to try. I mean, it could be better, it could be worse; nobody knows unless you try it right?

Well, sad to say, to me it's an inferior product to the DHC Lash Serum. It may work better for other people, cos our lashes do differ, but for me it didn't work at all.

Here's the weird doe-foot applicator:

1st problem:

Canmake states that the soft doe-foot application makes application easier and safer (by not injuring your eye if you accidently jab the wand into your eyeball). But I don't feel it's so when I was using it. It's so much easier to apply serum to the lashes when it's a brush applicator rather than this lipgloss-look alike. Yes, it does feel safer but I haven't jabbed myself in the eye with any applicators yet and I can't seem to coat my lashes properly with this - I only seem to be rubbing my lash line with the gel essence.

2nd problem:

With an opaque container, no mention of any measurements and the doe-foot applicator, it seems like there's hardly any essence left after a few uses! I guess this is the packaging's fault.

With the DHC Serum, they state that it's 6.5 ml and the container is transparent, so you know exactly how much you're getting and how much your using. The brush applicator makes it able to use every drop to the last bit too. For the Canmake's, you don't know how much essence there is in there, you can't peep into the container and because of the spongey doe-foot applicator, I feel it absorbs more of the essence than my lashes do.

Comparing to DHC's, which I used religiously twice a day and it lasted me about 9 weeks, Canmake's only lasted me barely 7 weeks with once a day usage. I even forgot to apply it on some days, so it definitely isn't as much as DHC's.

3rd problem:

I would guess this is the most critical one, cause this lash essence does nothing for my lashes at all. I was pretty satisfied with the length and thickness DHC's serum gave me and I wasn't expecting much for this. If it could let my lashes grow a bit more, great! If it could maintain the lashes I have now, that's good enough. But I feel it not only didn't make my lashes grow, it didn't maintain them at all. I noticed my lashes falling out more often when I'm using Canmake's. It's really annoying, cause then all those beautiful long lashes that the DHC serum managed to coax out just went to waste. How vexing!

~~~~~~~~~~~
Ha ha, so enough of rambling, let's know some of its facts:
Smell: It doesn't really smell like anything. :) Quite a neutral smell, as opposed to DHC's olive oil-like smell.
Texture: This has a 50% water, 50% jelly texture. It's like a thin gel, which becomes thicker (and eventually doesn't appear on the applicator anymore) as you use it. It's definitely less watery than DHC's lash serum, so it won't make you look like you've been crying if you put too much.
Applicator: Doe-foot. I dislike it, enough said. ):
Price: It's usually going for S$17-18, I think, but I got it at S$14+. At that price, it's slightly cheaper than DHC's but that doesn't justify the miserable amount inside. At the usual price, it's more expensive than the DHC's.
Place: I bought mine at John Little, which explains the discount, but you can find it at Watsons too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

All in all, I really won't repurchase this. In fact, I've already bought another DHC Lash Serum, started using it and am loving it! Please do keep in mind that this is just my personal experience using this product. It may work differently on other people so if you want to try it, go ahead (and since it's not that pricey and stuff). But this review is just to give people a heads-up, you know, on what to expect and whatsnot. So I hope this review is useful to those looking for an eyelash serum. Thanks everyone for reading!

After 5 pm today, the 20th of May 2011, I'll be a free man! YESSSSSSS!!!

NOTD - A Different Kind of French

May 15, 2011 1:42 pm · 36 Views · Posted by Regis

Like what the title says, it's the basic french manicure with a different colour combi as compared to the usual pink and white version.

Polishes used were the Dear Darling polish in "Blushing Peach" and the GR603 polish; both are from Etude House.

I'm not sure if you can see it here, but the peach coloured nail polish has very slight pink shimmers in it.

In the bottle it looks so pretty and kinda holographic, but sadly that doesn't translate well on the nails. The polish also applies quite streaky, but hey, I paid S$4+ for the polish only, can't expect top notch quality from it. :) However, I do like this colour combination though.

One more week. I have to tahan one more week! Before my exams ends. So I'll talk to you guys more later, thanks for viewing this post, and keep an eye out for part 2 of my giveaway! Take care everyone!

150 Followers Contest Closed + Result

That. Was. Fast.

Ha ha, congratulations to purrbliss for guessing the correct mascara! It is this one:

L'oreal's Volume Shocking Waterproof mascara!

It's been quite a while since I've featured it, so I thought it would take some time for people to figure it out, but purrbliss was awesome at getting it correct! I've emailed you already, dear, so let me know if you haven't received my notification alright?

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has taken the time and effort to join, I really appreciate seeing all the answers. :]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a side note, here's something I'd like to share:
Missha is back in Singapore??? This small little shop was spotted in White Sands Shopping Mall in Pasir Ris, and it's newly opened! You spot that BA in front of the mirror..? She was preening herself the whole time! I stood there for 10 minutes to snap these pictures, and after I went to Challenger and came back, she was still in front of the mirror, staring fixated at herself. Lol.
The display of cosmetics outside the shop I spot the popular Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream, but it's dead expensive (S$60, packaged together with another tube of something-which-I-didn't-see).
If you happen to be at White Sands, it's worth checking out I guess. Just don't buy the stuff there, cos it's cheaper online. :p
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Last but not least, there's part 2 of my 150 followers giveaway! So to those who did not win this time, fret not!

Sneak peek, he he he...

However, it will only be opened after I'm done with all my papers, so stay tuned till then alright? Thanks everyone! <3

Contest Giveaway! LOTD-based & 150 Followers [Closed]

May 8, 2011 11:09 pm · 109 Views · Posted by Regis

Hello everyone!

Despite me being right smack in the middle of my exams, I've decided to hold a giveaway to celebrate having 150 (well, 154 now) followers! Actually I prepared this giveaway a long time ago, but I just got derailed with other stuff. What I'm trying to say is that the follower count doesn't matter to me much, but I just want to show my appreciation to everyone who reads this blog! Thank you, xie xie, terima kasih, danke, merci, kamsahamnida, arigatou gouzaimasu!

And I'm gonna make it interesting by holding a little contest for it, he he he!

So after mugging for a good half of today, I joined my family for dinner at Tampines One and I took the opportunity to do a quick LOTD. Or more like Eye-Of-The-Day, since I really didn't do much for my face (just MSF for highlight, no foundation/concealer whatsoever).

This is how i normally look like when I'm mugging. *sian look on face* Sans makeup of course.

The eyes:

... (please ignore the accidental booby cleavage)...

I haven't done any rusty-red eye makeup for quite some time, so I whipped out my Nyx e/s in "Jazzy Bronze" for a super duper fast, 5 minute smokey eye. Look like I kena zeng in the eye?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But anyway, here's the contest:
Guess what mascara I was using in today's LOTD!
Contest has been closed, cos Purrbliss has guessed it correctly (and in very good time too~)! Winner will be contacted in a bit. :D Thanks for joining everyone!
It's not a bad mascara, and here's some more pics of me having it on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Prizes to be won:

Yep, it's quite a lot of stuff! Not expensive branded cosmetics but good quality nonetheless. All were purchased by me after I spent a long time racking my brain for good stuff to give you guys! :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How to join:
Step 1: Simple, just guess what mascara I was using and leave your answer as a comment behind!
Step 2: Leave your email and name behind too, so that I can contact you if you win. :)
Step 3: Important! Everyone is only allowed one guess a day. This contest will be opened for 7 days, so you'll get 7 guesses all together.
Rules:
1) Contest will be opened to the mentioned dateline below, or as soon as someone has guessed the correct answer. Don't worry, I'll start giving clues if I don't see any correct answers coming up.
2) Should there be no correct answers, a random person who entered this contest will be picked through random.org. So if you join for all 7 days, it means you get a higher chance of winning.
3) Must be a follower of my blog.
4) Opened to readers in Singapore only.
5) Prizes will be given, hopefully, through a meet-up. If not, I'll post it via normal mail.
6) It's not compulsory to re-post this on your blog, but I'll definitely appreciate a little mention. ;)
What is the dateline?
15th May 2011, 11:59 pm
That's all for now, good luck with the guessing everyone! And once again, thanks for joining this contest and being my follower.
LOTD - Bright Bottoms [Spectacle-friendly]
May 5, 2011 3:07 am · 118 Views · Posted by Regis
Lol, I'm talking about the bottom lash line and not any other stuff, so keep your mind out of the gutter ok? xD
Yet another exam stress-induced LOTD, which I seem to be doing on a routinely basis. Here's are two looks I did 1 year back when I did my May exams, and another two looks I did 1/2 year back when I was struggling with my December papers. Guess it's obvious how I release stress when things come down to a crunch. =/
I was inspired to do this when I was reading Emily Noel's blog post on makeup tips for spectacles, and she mentioned about wearing more colours on your lower lash line to bring attention to your eyes more (since the crease tends to get obstructed by the frames).
And so I did just that, here's the look:
Maybe it's not very obvious here, but I was wearing that brown-teal duochrome eyeshadow from the Wet n Wild "Comfort Zone" palette over Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner in "Covet". Both are bright teal colours but I guess the brown duochrome and bad lighting today toned it down. For my lids, I just used the peachy and brown e/s from "COmfort Zone" to do some simple contouring. Finished it with eyeliner and mascara!
I also experimented the look with 3 different lip colours!
This one is with my MAC cremesheen lipstick in "Fanfare", a very normal pink for me.
And here's with Urban Decay's lipstick in "Vinyl".
Ha ha, does it scream "loud' or what? This somehow reminds me of poison for some queer reason.
And the last one is with a peachy-nude lip (was using my lipliner).
This is my favourite lip colour out of all the three (god forbid I wear that UD lipstick out), but the sad thing is that it's a lip liner! I need to find a lipstick that's the same shade as this liner, cos this is just the right kind of nude for me. I can't wear NYX's "Circe" for nuts; I look like the living dead. Does anyone have any recommendations for a lipstick that is of this colour???
Anyway, hopefully by now, the teal colour on my lower lash line has been more obvious and you guys can actually see it. And I think it works for spectacles too, cos I tried it out below. :)
My frames sit rather low because I have a little don't have any nose bridge at all, thus my upper lids are always blocked by my glasses. This is a good way to wear colour on your eyes and get it noticed too.
Speaking of which, Michelle Phan just posted up a video on spectacles and makeup a few hours back, and I'm ecstatic at the coincidence! Ha ha, what's the chance of it happening? But she did a typical crease-contour thing. Watch it if you want and see which way works better for you. :)
For me, I'm digging this method now and I can foresee myself wearing this look to every exam I'm gonna have this and next week (need to de-stress before chiong-ing for the paper, woots!) Ha ha, thanks for looking guys and all the best to those taking exams too!
